Maintenance Team Member
Department/Program: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance and Construction Manager
Employment: Full-time, Non-exempt
Schedule: Monday – Friday,7 am - 3 pm, 24-hour on-call for emergencies
Compensation: $20/hr - $25/hr
About the Role
Amos House is a healing-centered nonprofit serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, and recovery across seven sites in Providence, Rhode Island. Our Maintenance Team plays a critical role in ensuring our spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming for the people we serve every day.
The Maintenance Team Member is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and improvement of Amos House facilities across our sites. This is a hands-on role that requires broad trades knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and alongside a team. The right candidate takes pride in their craft and understands that a well-maintained space directly supports the safety and dignity of the people who live and work here.
What You’ll Do
Building Maintenance & Repair
- Troubleshoot and repair issues involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment systems.
- Perform routine electrical repairs including light bulbs, ballasts, fixtures, receptacles, and switches.
- Perform routine plumbing repairs including faucets, toilets, filters, and pipe repairs.
- Repair and replace door knobs, locks, and hardware.
- Paint and patch interior and exterior walls.
- Repair and replace appliances as needed.
- Caulk windows and doors; repair or replace broken windows.
Remodeling & Construction
- Lead frame-to-finish work on remodeling and renovation projects.
- Measure, cut, and assemble materials accurately.
- Perform demolition, site preparation, and cleanup.
Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
- Maintain yards and grounds, including grass cutting and bush trimming.
- Perform snow removal and operate snow equipment.
Restoration & Special Projects
- Participate in water damage restoration efforts, including mold remediation.
- Oversee outside contractors as needed.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.

What You Bring
Must-Haves
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on building maintenance or trades experience.
- Broad knowledge of electrical, plumbing, structural, and general building systems.
- Safe and proficient operation of hand and power tools.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work in all weather conditions.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in a nonprofit, social services, or residential facility setting.
- Familiarity with mold remediation or water damage restoration.
- Experience supervising or coordinating with outside contractors.
Working Conditions
- Work involves moderate to heavy physical work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The position regularly requires standing, stooping, walking, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
- On-call availability for after-hours emergencies is required.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
