This role is responsible for assisting with employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, performance management, and HR program administration while ensuring alignment with company policies and applicable employment laws. The ideal candidate thrives in a construction environment and can effectively support employees at all levels of the organization.
Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate full-cycle recruiting activities including posting positions, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and extending offers
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new hires, ensuring completion of required documentation and training
- Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background checks, drug screenings, and employment verification
- Maintain onboarding records and personnel files
- Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
- Promote a positive workplace culture and employee engagement initiatives
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and questions related to company-sponsored programs
- Support administration of leave programs including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodations, and other protected leaves
- Maintain accurate records for benefits and employee status changes
- Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records in accordance with company policies
- Support I-9 compliance and employment eligibility verification processes
- Coordinate employee training programs and track required certifications and licenses
- Assist with payroll processing activities and employee changes as needed
- Prepare reports, maintain HR metrics, and support audits
- Support offboarding activities including exit interviews and separation documentation
- Knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of Human Resources experience required
- Construction industry experience preferred
- Experience supporting both office and field employees strongly preferred
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work
- Ability to occasionally travel to project sites
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
