The Position
- The Director of HIM will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Health Information Management department, overseeing daily operations, staff performance, workflow optimization, and regulatory compliance while ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of health information.
- The Director will lead privacy and compliance initiatives, manage investigations, respond to grievances and legal requests, and ensure adherence to federal, state, and organizational privacy regulations.
- Partner closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and operational departments to support accurate documentation, medical record completeness, information accessibility, and high-quality patient care.
- Lead departmental quality improvement initiatives, utilizing data analysis, performance metrics, and process improvement strategies to enhance medical record management, coding accuracy, operational efficiency, and revenue cycle performance.
- Oversee departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory readiness, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, infection prevention requirements, patient safety initiatives, and governing body regulations.
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and Financial Services teams to optimize claims reimbursement, identify coding and billing trends, monitor payer updates, and implement strategies that improve financial performance and reduce denials.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, establish productivity and quality benchmarks, and foster a positive, engaged work environment through coaching, communication, and professional development of team members.
- Serve as a key organizational resource and committee leader, preparing medical staff reports, supporting organizational quality initiatives, and providing expert guidance on health information management, privacy, compliance, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of five years of coding experience is required in addition to a minimum of five years of leadership experience.
- Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC) is a financially strong 393-bed, non-profit, regional referral center providing comprehensive services through advanced technology.

- SRHC has implemented specialized trauma care to achieve its Level III Trauma Center status, as is equipped with a 26-bed Emergency Department and four trauma suites.
