Director of Acute Hospital Coding

The Position
- The Director of Acute Hospital Coding will provide the vision and strategics goals pertaining to coding and billing matters for the Nuvance Healthcare System under the direction of the Vice President of Revenue Integrity. Ensuring that coding practices meet quality and regulatory requirements and promote adherence to all governmental and commercial payer regulations.
- The Director will oversee approximately 70 FTEs including four direct reports throughout the department and will collaborate closely with both CDI and physician teams. This individual will ensure accuracy and timeliness of Acute Hospital (Inpatient, outpatient, Ed) and Ancillary Coding supporting revenue cycle initiatives in compliance with CMS and third-party payers.
- The Director will focus on ongoing departmental initiatives including cost analyses, denials/denial write-offs, render management, escalations, and efficiency. He or She will drive process improvements by analyzing metrics and workflows to eliminate redundancies and identify opportunities of automation, consolidations, and cross training, enhancing middle revenue cycle processes.
- The ideal candidate will be an experienced, hands-on leader with deep expertise in acute hospital coding and billing. Strong mentoring abilities, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a sharp analytical and problem-solving mindset are essential for success in this role.
- The Director must foster and maintain positive working relationships with the physician and CDI teams and maintain partnerships across multiple departments to ensure seamless collaboration and efficiency.
- Seeking a forward-thinking leader who’s willing to think “outside of the box” to create collaborative partnerships across the organization and drive key initiatives pertaining to accountability, employee development, productivity metrics, employee engagement, and operational efficiencies.
- Experience with Cerner, 3M 360, and DRG systems is preferred.
- This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- CCS certification is required.
- Acute Hospital coding experience is required.
- A minimum of seven years of coding experience is required.
- A minimum of three years of leadership experience in a related setting is required.
- The base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000 annually. In addition, a leader may be eligible for other benefits, including but not limited to health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and bonuses. The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The base salary range listed above is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
