The Opportunity
The MetroHealth System, a well-respected public health system based in Cleveland, OH, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This role offers a unique opportunity to join a newly established executive team and help build the future of the organization at a transformative moment.
The Position
As a key member of the CEO Council, the Chief Financial Officer assumes a strategic role in the overall management of The MetroHealth System (MHS). Develops and executes finance strategy in support of MHS overall business plan and strategic direction. Provides vision, innovative leadership and strategic, operational, and financial oversight for all functions related to financial management, budgeting, accounting, reimbursement, etc. Establishes and implements policies and procedures related to accounting practices. Oversees Accounting and Financial Reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Enterprise Analytics, Revenue Cycle, and Treasury. Participates with the President and other senior leaders in institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution. Serves as ambassador for the MetroHealth System and builds positive community relationships. Advances the organization’s position with Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio Department of Medicaid, and other constituents, as well as drives broader awareness and support for MetroHealth. Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
The Ideal Candidate
The MetroHealth System (“MetroHealth” or the “MHS”) is a $2B revenue, nationally ranked non-profit, public health care system, and is one of the largest, most comprehensive healthcare providers in Northeast Ohio, serving the medical needs of the Greater Cleveland community since 1837. Leadership is demonstrating collaboration, innovation, and singular ambition in their approach to each of the institution’s missions at a time when MetroHealth has never been more aligned and integrated, as reflected in outstanding clinical growth and financial success. MetroHealth is an Academic Medical Center and principal teaching hospital for Case Western University School of Medicine. Faculty appointments are awarded through CWRSOM. The system’s 689 doctors, 2,159 nurses and more than 8,000 employees go to work each day with a mission of service, to their patients and to the community. As Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system, MetroHealth plays an essential role in the region, caring for anyone and everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Founded in 1837, MetroHealth operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites throughout Cuyahoga County. The system serves more than 300,000 patients, two-thirds of whom are uninsured or covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, it was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lakeshore, as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines. The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or equivalent required. Master’s in finance, accounting, business administration or equivalent is preferred. CPA Certification is preferred.
- Ten years of progressive experience in accounting or finance to include managerial accounting, healthcare financial management, medical group practice management, decision support systems, business planning, and mathematical analysis of business problems.
- Seven years of supervisory experience in an accounting/financial capacity.
- Must be able to develop financial and other operational systems to accurately report and control System financial activities.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions.
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional self-development.
- Demonstrated evidence of a team-based leadership approach with collaborative decision making.
- Results oriented individual.
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, Board of Trustees, and staff.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, mentoring, customer service and excellent interpersonal skills required along with experience in working in a team and with multi-disciplinary groups.
- Experience in a safety-net academic medical center with a matrix organizational structure is preferred.
