Job Summary: Under direction of supervisory staff, performs waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations. Consistently employs Universal Precautions through all phases of specimen handling, processing, testing and disposal.
- Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples
- Performs laboratory tasks such as printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) specimen storage, retrieval and disposal.
- Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. Including building worklists and aliquoting specimens into sample tubes
- Creating a batch sheet using Excel
- Assist in Laboratory prep, clean up and decontaminates work area
- Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples.
- Prioritizes work to give prompt attention to stat and expedite specimens as well as those requiring special handling.
- Restocking lab supplies and maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies at all times.
- Report low inventory of supplies to the Group Leader of Lab Services.
- Remove expired laboratory stock and equipment according to established disposal procedures.
- Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.
- Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assists technologists and technicians with the operation of standard laboratory instruments
- Perform routine laboratory assistant duties according to agency standards and protocols
- All other assignments as directed by management
Requirements
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred
- Understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance
- Knowledge of general laboratory safety issues and universal precautions
- Proficient computer and data entry skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work proficiently and efficiently in a timely manner
- Must be well organized and detail oriented
- Strong work ethic and commitment to completing assigned task
- Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
- Must be able to retain information once learned.
- Must interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respect.
- High School Diploma or higher
- 3-6 months experience working in a similar role
