Position Summary
The CNC Operator I is responsible for operating computer numerical control machines under supervision to produce parts to specification. This position is for candidates with limited CNC experience who will be trained on basic machine operation, safety procedures, quality checks, and shop practices.
Responsibilities
· Start, stop, and run CNC machines according to procedures and work instructions.
· Load and unload raw materials and finished parts from CNC machines.
· Perform basic tool changes.
· Deburr parts as needed.
· Maintain production targets and goals.
· Check parts with calipers and basic gauges.
· Follow SPC sheets and correctly use ERP system.
· Maintain clean work area.
· Work under close supervision of experienced machinists and accept coaching and feedback.
· Participate in on-the-job training on company processes, quality systems, and safety programs.
· Communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors on job status, quality issues, machine problems, hazards, and unsafe conditions.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) preferred.
- Prior manufacturing or machine shop experience a plus but not required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read English and understand basic work instructions, safety instructions, and simple part drawings (training provided).
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read a micrometer, caliper, and other basic precision measurement tools.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to ask questions when unclear.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods (e.g., 9-hour shifts).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
- Ability to use PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, footwear, gloves when appropriate).
