Lead Tube Mill Operator
AMI Industries is looking for an experienced Tube Mill Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and experience in operating various machining equipment. This role will be responsible for leading the Tube Mill team and is essential in ensuring the production of high-quality parts while adhering to safety standards and operational efficiency. Benefit package offered after 90 day introductory period, along with paid time off.
Specific Duties
- Lead and coordinate the tube mill team during operations and changeovers.
- Operate and monitor Tube mills to ensure tube production meets all quality and order specifications (profile, weld, scarfing, etc.).
- Review mill schedule to prepare for upcoming changeovers.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine specifications and tolerances.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers for quality inspection of finished products.
- Conduct fabrication tasks using hand tools and tooling techniques to meet production requirements.
- Engage in active machine issues as they arise, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Train team members as needed.
- Collaborate with team members on assembly processes and ensure adherence to quality control standards.
- Operate forklift and overhead crane to move, load, unload, and store finished good and in-process materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all safety protocols, PPE requirements and company procedures.
- Performs individual assignments that supervisors and superiors may direct.
- Must carry out duties per IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 requirements.
Required Training, Knowledge and Experience:
- Associate’s degree or technical diploma preferred
- Trade certification or journeyman's card highly desirable
- Strong mechanical/electrical background, especially in metal rolling mills and induction heating systems
- Previous hands-on experience in tube mill operations.
- Proven ability to lead team and troubleshoot in real-time.
- Comfortable using production and inventory software systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Deep understanding of workplace safety and PPE compliance.
- Ability to work independently and make critical decisions quickly.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to, and reviews the work of assigned staff.
- Performs all work with adherence to safety and standard operating procedures.
- Performs all administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department.
Critical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Maneuvers in, around, under, and about factory and/or laboratory equipment and machinery on a regular and continuous basis.
- Majority of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Regular use of overhead cranes, forklifts, hand tools, welding/cutting equipment
- Works within an automotive components manufacturing, office, and laboratory setting and is exposed to heat, cold, wet, and fumes/chemicals.
- May be required to travel to other plants and/or customer sites.
Pay is dependent on experience.
