About The Project/Clinic

  • AMI will be supporting the Indian Health Service in Bemidji, MN, by providing medical staff to help deliver compassionate, high-quality healthcare to patients in the community.

Job Summary

  • This position performs laboratory testing on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, including collecting and processing samples, conducting routine and specialized tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accuracy through quality control procedures. The role requires cultural competence, flexibility to work in remote settings with potential travel, and a commitment to safety, quality improvement, and professional standards.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Specimen Collection and Processing: Collect, prepare, and handle specimens accurately and efficiently for routine testing and referral.
  • Laboratory Testing: Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and serology while ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Perform and monitor quality control procedures, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and coordinate external servicing of laboratory instruments as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all laboratory procedures, safety protocols, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements, including blood-borne pathogen policies.
  • Proficiency Testing and Improvement Programs: Participate in laboratory proficiency testing and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of test results, quality control data, and laboratory supply inventory.
  • Patient Interaction: Provide respectful and professional service to patients across various age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.

  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Education & Experience

  • Certification: Valid ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience in a clinical laboratory setting, including specimen collection, accessioning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross is required.

Additional Requirements

  • Background check and character investigation as per the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Credentialing and fingerprinting required before starting.
  • Ability to work in Remote Areas and travel, if necessary, with weather-related travel challenges expected at some locations.
  • Proof of required immunizations and health clearances (including PPD/TB Gold, annual influenza vaccination, MMR, and Hepatitis B)
  • Ability to meet physical and training requirements established by IHS
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations. Must work as a team member to improve safety culture and quality.?

  • ? Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
