Position Location and Details
AMI Expeditionary Healthcare is seeking qualified and experienced candidate for the post of General Practitioner for its medical facility in Sierra Leone.
Reporting To: Country Manager & Clinical Lead
Primary Job Location: Sierra Leone
Secondary Job Locations: Liberia, South Sudan, and other parts of Africa (Depending on business needs)
Assignment Duration: This position is available full-time, for an indefinite period.
Job Summary: The General Practitioner (GP) shall provide comprehensive consultation to patients of all ages. They diagnose and treat various medical conditions, offer preventive care, and refer patients to specialists when needed, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support patients and their families.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine check-ups and physical examinations.
- Diagnoses and treats a wide variety of illnesses and medical conditions.
- Prescribes medications and treatments.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests such as blood tests, X-rays, and MRIs.
- Provides preventive care, including vaccinations and health advice.
- Manages chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
- Refers patients to specialists when necessary.
- Maintains detailed patient records and medical histories.
- Educates patients on health management and disease prevention.
- Performs minor surgical procedures, such as suturing wounds and removing skin lesions.
- Addresses mental health issues and provides counselling or referrals as needed.
- Follows up with patients to monitor progress and adjust treatments.
- Stays updated with the latest medical practices and research.
- Submits relevant reports to the Medical Director or Country Manager.
- Participates in community health initiatives and education programs.
- Ensures that patient confidentiality and privacy are kept.
- Responds to emergency situations and provides initial care. Assists the patient in any scenario that may be presented during deployment period.
- Manages a practice, including administrative duties and staff supervision.
- Adheres to ethical guidelines and standards set by professional organizations and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinates with the specialists, if for any reason the specialist cannot be present physically on site.
Required skills and abilities:
- Adaptability: Effective work in diverse environments. Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environments, including medical emergencies.
- Critical Thinking: Diagnoses, evaluates, intervenes, and solves medical problems.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate verbally and write effectively.
- Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient records and information as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Education, Experience & Another Requirements:
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in General Medicine
- Training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Paediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
- Valid medical license to practice in Internal Medicine
- Extensive knowledge of General Medicine/Internal Medicine/General Surgery treatments, procedures, and protocols
- Valid identification (passport, national ID, driver's license)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Freetown, Sierra Leone
