Mechanical Engineer 0-3 Years Experience
Location: Superior WI (Duluth, MN) Department: Mechanical/R&D Department
Reports to: Industrial/Project Manager Status: Full-Time
We have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a mechanical engineer with 0 to 3 years’ experience. This position seeks a person with high attention to detail who can assist our team with the successful completion of projects. You will provide engineering support on commercial building and industrial projects. AMI staff love what we do and feel fortunate to be able to add additional staff to our team.
Along with more traditional engineering projects the position will include support of 3rd party testing services of ballast water management system designed to kill or remove organisms from the ballast water of ships to reduce the risk of ship transmitted invasive species. This work is performed at a facility owned and managed by the University of Wisconsin Superior and aboard ships throughout the Great Lakes.
The ideal candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, with impeccable follow through while taking ownership in each project assigned. Travel and field work may be required to complete projects. The successful candidate will gain experience in serving the engineering needs of clients by providing exceptional professional service. They should be passionate about their work, enjoy variety and like problem solving. This candidate should also be team oriented, honest and have a helpful disposition with a positive “can do” attitude.

What Will You Do If Selected for This Position
Develop designs, calculations, technical reports, and specifications that address the needs of our clients and stakeholders.
- Perform engineering design using AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and other engineering programs.
- Operate equipment that is being evaluated for certification or reached and development goals.
- Perform field investigations, assisting with collection of data to supply as the basis of innovative and unique designs.
- Design solutions to improve the places we live, work and play.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 0 – 3 years of prior experience
- FE / EIT certification (preferred but not required)
- Self-starter that is deadline driven
- Positive attitude, with a high work ethic
- Flexible work schedule to support project implementation
- Enjoys an ever changing, fast paced work environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D modeling software (Inventor, SolidWorks, or Revit preferred), and Microsoft Project
- Experience in technical writing, specifically for project reports and project specifications
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Engineering support for integrating treatment systems into the facility
- Operating the facility or treatment system during a land-based test.
- Boarding ships and operating the sample system for biological sampling.
- Work with senior engineers to perform basic engineering calculations.
- Assist with designing, drafting and revisions to drawings as needed.
- Author well written and organized technical reports, weekly project management reports and client letters.
