Please see www.sau39.org Learning Specialist for Life Skills Program at Amherst Middle School Position Overview: Amherst Middle School is seeking a Learning Specialist in our Life Skills Program, available immediately for the 2026-2027 school year. This person should have knowledge and training in specialized programming for students with complex needs, inclusion practices, co-teaching, competency-based education, delivery of specialized instruction in math, writing, reading, and executive functioning, and behavior management practices.  Experience is preferred in collecting and analyzing data for instructional planning, ability to multi-task for optimum implementation of instruction, and a capacity to support students in all academic areas of reading, writing, and math, and co-planning with classroom teachers for co-teaching and differentiation in a competency-based grading system.  Duties and Responsibilities: Provide specialized instruction in both individual and small group modalities Responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized goals and the maintenance of special education paperwork Work in conjunction with a program-dedicated Social Worker to meet student social-emotional and educational needs Consult, collaboration, and coordination with all team members regarding services Consult with team members on curriculum modifications and accommodations based on learning needs. Provide staff with resources, tools, and in-class recommendations related to students' needs Ability to develop Individual Education Plans, transition plans, measurable goals, and appropriate accommodations/modifications Successful experience teaching students who have a variety of educational disabilities Experience with neurodiverse students. Provide consultative services to parents, teachers, and other educational personnel. Responsible for coordination of home and school communication regarding educational programming when appropriate.
