Job Description
General Laborer/Operator
Summary:
The General Laborer/Operator will be responsible for performing manual labor needs within assigned work areas and acquiring knowledge of materials coming into the Ferrous or Non-Ferrous operations. This position may be required to operate small mobile equipment (e.g. forklift, skid steer) as needed. Must maintain a clean and efficient work area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Must be able to read, write and interpret basic instructions and procedures.
3. Must be able to communicate to customers with tact and professionalisim.
4. Must be able to follow all safety rules.
Job Duties:
1. May be assigned clean up duties.
2. May assist in maintenance, as needed. 3. May provide support for the scale operator, inspect incoming loads, and keep the scale area and yard clear of materials and debris. 4. Assist with the processing of materials in accordance with current processing standards.
5. Fill out necessary inspection lists and paperwork as needed.
6. Report all safety concerns to supervision.
7. Must be willing to work half days on Saturdays.
Qualifications:
This position requires full range of motion (i.e. bending, twisting, lifting, climbing, and extension) and/or sitting, standing, walking for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work overtime as necessary.
This position will be exposed to all weather conditions and elements. Must be willing and able to work in extreme heat, cold and inclement weather conditions.
Safety – Required PPE includes steel toed shoes, hard hat, and safety glasses/goggles which must be worn at all times.
