Director of Engineering

Job summary
As a key member of our leadership team, you will report directly to the CEO and play a critical role in advancing Ametrine’s multispectral hardware products and systems. This role centers on materials science, optics, textile-integrated technology, and hardware system integration — not on software development.

This is a hands-on leadership role in an exciting space – shaping the future of advanced optical and multispectral materials. We encourage applicants from hardware, physics-based engineering, defense technology, and optical systems backgrounds to apply; software engineering backgrounds are not aligned with this role.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Frequent interface with the global Ametrine team and end users to take inventions from prototype to mass-production readiness.
- Create, manage, and report annual departmental goals to senior leadership and company board of directors.
- Manage the US technical team to implement leading edge technology.
- Ensure optimized application of engineering talent through departmental organization, project planning, task delegation, and task tracking.
- Develop and apply a deep understanding of both the customer base and R&D team to ensure rapid transfer of knowledge.
- Support the development of new products and manage new product pipelines in close collaboration with business development team.
- Support business development engagements as a technical representative of the company.
- Anticipate internal and external friction points, and rally resources to solve problems before they occur.
- Oversee field testing(planning, logistics, execution) of new and modified products and ensure seamless communication among stakeholders to rapidly field final product versions.
- Compose white papers, proposals, and reports for customers and stakeholders to create new business and communicate progress for ongoing business.
Skills, Background and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, materials science, optics, or relevant technical discipline. (Software engineering backgrounds are not aligned with this role.)
- 5 years leading inter-disciplinary technical teams required, 10 years preferred.
- Experience working in a global organization and collaborating across countries preferred.
- Multi- disciplinary technical background.
- Military background preferred
- Experience in textiles preferred.
- Proven track record as a strong leader, including successful management of multiple tasks, with prioritization, timeline/milestones, and results.
- Demonstrated drive and an entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to take initiative and see projects through to completion.
- Strong analytical and effective problem-solving skills to cope with an intense and dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of management.
- Excellent computer literacy.
- Strong technical communication in the form of written reports, technical graphics, and data visualization.
