Description
Shipping coordinator is in charge of overseeing outbound packages for transportation. As a shipping coordinator, your job duties include communicating with shippers to provide rates, managing large quantities of packages, and assisting with various routing tasks. Ensures the accuracy of all shipping documents and gathers and maintains all data and records relative to shipping activities. Assure that shipping counts match picking/purchase order documents and assists in resolving any discrepancies. Ensures accuracy in the warehouse by doing cycle counts to maintain correct inventory levels.
Requirements
A shipping coordinator typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Coordinating with other members of the shipping department to ensure that all shipments are properly prepared.
- Creating reports on shipping activities such as tracking shipments, compiling statistics about shipping volume or rates.
- Arranging or pickup or delivery of shipments using a variety of methods such as trucking companies, railroads, airlines, or shipping lines
- Communicating with clients to ensure that they receive their orders on time.
- Interacting with insurance companies to settle claims for damaged items.
- Preparing invoices for shipping costs and keeping track of them for accounting purposes
- Maintaining records of inventory levels and purchasing new inventory when necessary
- Maintaining a database of customer information such as shipping address and contact information.
- Assisting with the planning and scheduling of shipments including documentation, pick-up arrangements, customs clearance procedures, etc.
