AmeriQual Foods, an Evansville, IN based food manufacturing facility, is seeking a self-motivated, results-oriented individual to assume responsibilities as a Thermal Processing Tech / Retort Gatekeeper. This position is responsible for thermal process testing and for ensuring all retort deviations were properly identified and placed on hold if required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete retort record review in compliance with federal regulations
• Conduct heat penetration and temperature distribution testing
• Report any process deviations to proper personnel and document deviation in retort deviation database
• Prepare any necessary equipment and packaging for following day’s testing
• Conduct post process analysis on heat penetration contains, including but not limited to residual airs, drain weights, piece count, and pH.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; AS/BS in engineering, biology, or related field preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of retorts and retort operations
• Better Process Control School Certification or capability of becoming certified
• Demonstrate good mechanical and computer skills for computer interface operations
• Strong communication and personal interaction skills
• Excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast paced environment

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position will also frequent the production floor, so operating in standard seasonal warehouse and food processing plant temperature conditions will be required. Lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling/moving objects, and using specialized tools, equipment, and machines is required. Duties include intricate repairs, which will require working in, on, and around complex machinery and packaging systems, requiring a high level of manual dexterity. Operating in standard seasonal warehouse and food processing plant temperature conditions will be required. Work is completed in a facility where nuts, fruits and other allergens are present
