Ameripawn is a family-owned and operated pawn business with 41 years of experience and three locations in Northwest Indiana. We are looking for a motivated, personable team member who enjoys working with people, learning about merchandise, and helping customers find solutions.
This is not a typical retail or call-center customer service position. Our team members work directly with customers while evaluating merchandise, completing pawn transactions, making sales, negotiating deals, and building relationships with repeat customers.
What You'll Do
Provide friendly, professional customer service
Evaluate and appraise a wide variety of merchandise brought in for pawn or sale
Complete pawn, loan, and retail transactions
Negotiate transactions while working within company guidelines
Help customers select merchandise and explain product features and benefits
Identify opportunities to increase sales through upselling and product knowledge
Maintain accurate transaction recordsProcess sales and transactions using store technology
Assist with inventory, merchandising, and restocking
Keep the store clean, organized, and welcoming
Answer customer phone calls and provide excellent phone serviceHandle jewelry, coins, electronics, tools, bicycles, and other merchandise
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:Friendly and comfortable talking with customers
Confident negotiating and discussing prices
Detail-oriented and organized
Comfortable handling cash and completing transactions accurately
Comfortable learning about jewelry, coins, electronics, tools, and other merchandise
Comfortable using computers and point-of-sale technology
Able to recognize sales opportunities and make recommendations
Dependable and willing to work Saturdays
Previous experience with jewelry, coins, bullion, numismatics, retail sales, banking, lending, or pawnbroking is a plus — but we are also interested in people with strong customer service and sales skills who are willing to learn.
Locations
We are hiring for our Lake Station, LaPorte, and Valparaiso locations.
Employees may be scheduled at our different Northwest Indiana locations as needed, so the ability to work at all three locations is required.
The Valparaiso location also operates U-Haul truck and trailer rentals.
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-person position. Saturdays are required.
Our standard full-time schedule is approximately 47 hours per week.
Physical Requirements
Pawn retail involves handling a wide variety of merchandise. During a typical shift, employees may handle jewelry, tools, bicycles, electronics, televisions, speakers, and other items.The weight, size, and frequency of lifting will vary from day to day.
Employees may also occasionally assist customers outside or retrieve merchandise from exterior storage areas.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting pay: $656 per week based on our standard 47-hour full-time schedule, plus monthly commission.
