About the Role
As a Multifamily Credit Underwriter, you’ll evaluate affordable housing transactions that leverage a mix of financing programs — including LIHTC, tax-exempt bonds, HUD, and conventional debt products. You’ll play a critical role in assessing feasibility, mitigating risk, and ensuring the long-term success of developments that expand affordable housing opportunities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Build and analyze financial models for multifamily developments with rent restrictions.
- Collect, review, and organize due diligence materials (entity docs, financials, construction docs).
- Review and apply LIHTC and multifamily financing program rules and guidelines.
- Engage and review third-party reports (appraisals, market studies, environmental assessments).
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and present recommendations to committees/boards.
- Collaborate with team members to move transactions from evaluation to closing.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years’ experience in credit/real estate underwriting.
- Proficiency in Excel financial modeling and Word.
- Knowledge of LIHTC, multifamily debt products (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD), and tax-exempt financing.
- Strong communication skills with ability to present to senior leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
