LAB TECHNICIAN
Full-time, Non-exempt
Ameriforge is in search of Metallurgical Lab Technician to help support operations at 13770 Industrial Road, Houston, TX 77015. The qualified candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests to established standards to ensure that only conforming products are transferred/shipped to our internal/external customers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Interprets blueprints, work orders, drawings, and work instructions.
· Works with customers or customer representatives to achieve testing goals.
· Coordinates testing activities associated with outside sources.
· Works with QA and Production personnel to obtain samples for testing.
· When necessary, performs test specimen machining for laboratory testing.
· Performs mechanical and/or nondestructive testing in accordance with specifications.
· Diagnose test failures and initiate corrective action.
· Documents tests and enters results into database.
· Ensures compliance with the MRB scrap disposition approval guidelines.
· Follow company policies and procedures
· Support and/or participate in the organization’s Continuous Improvement Programs
· Proactively participates in the Ameriforge Safety Program
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of testing methods used in a Mechanical Testing Laboratory environment.
· Familiar with the use of industry and customer specifications to determine testing values and types of testing to be performed.
· Knowledge of nondestructive test methods desirable.
· Knowledge of laboratory computer programs essential.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
· Excellent knowledge of machining processes and procedures
· Ability to understand and use basic mathematics
· Knowledge of materials and specifications.
· Ability to use precision measuring tools and laboratory equipment essential.
· Team oriented and the ability to operate with a diverse group
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· 1-3 years of laboratory testing or equivalent preferred.
· Must be experienced in the field of metal manufacturing and materials.
· Training in destructive and nondestructive test methods desirable.

· Standing, bending, sitting, lifting up to 50#, squatting and walking for 8 to 12 hours per day.
· Exposure to Production Environment on a daily basis.
· Must wear required personal protective equipment when in designated areas
