What are the responsibilities and job description for the VHA - New River Shelter Expansion VISTA position at AmeriCorps?
Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at New River Community Action (NRCA) in Radford, VA, and the Town of Blacksburg. The work will be located at the Town’s Housing and Community Connections office in Blacksburg, VA. New River Community Action (NRCA) works to reduce poverty and strengthen stability across the New River Valley by providing housing, homeless assistance, early childhood education, and supportive services. Through its seasonal shelter program, To Our House, and regional partnerships, NRCA serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness in communities where need exceeds available shelter capacity. Rising homelessness data highlights the need for expanded, coordinated shelter solutions in the New River Valley. The New River Shelter Expansion VISTA will build capacity by developing resources to expand shelter services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The VISTA will formalize To Our House policies and procedures, research comparable shelter models, and assess feasibility, costs, and funding pathways for expanded, year-round, and day shelter options. The VISTA will also establish systems for homelessness data sharing among regional partners, strengthening collaboration and supporting the local Continuum of Care. This work will equip NRCA and its partners with data, tools, and strategies to expand shelter access and improve regional coordination.
