The COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Program (www.iowaeda.com/covid-americorps-members/) supports local organizations working to address the social, economic, and physical needs of Iowans impacted by the pandemic. Since May 2020, the COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Program has placed more than 160 members in full or part time service in 20 Iowa communities at 40 organizations.
This position is a 24-week commitment. The member will serve a part time schedule averaging 20 hours per week, Monday-Thursday between 7:30am-6:00pm. The member will receive a living allowance totaling $5,085 In addition, successful completion earns an education award of $1,718 to pay qualified student loans or future education-related expenses. The member will have free and confidential access to a Member Assistance Program and will receive professional development opportunities throughout the service term.
The Community Services Specialist AmeriCorps Member will serve with Operation Threshold in Waterloo to connect individuals to economic resources in Black Hawk County through the following service activities.
Conduct application intake.
- Connect potential applicants with crisis rent, deposit assistance, and/or utility applications.
- Monitor and answer the crisis phone line for regular and emergency assistance requests.
- Monitor crisis email and respond to potential applicants.
- Identify necessary information needed for the application.
- Support clients through the application process, as needed.
Conduct application processing.
- Review applications to ensure they are completed correctly and contain all required information.
- Contact clients if additional information is needed. Facilitate the collection of additional items or information.
- Enter the application data into the agency Client Information System.
- Submit completed applications for approval.
Participate in agency training activities and meetings as necessary.
- Participate in program and agency related training as recommended by program supervisor.
- Participate in departmental meetings as required by program supervisor.
Position Requirements:
- Extended periods of sitting.
- Experience with office equipment (computer, copier, fax, scanner, etc.). {Preferred}
- Experience working with individuals in distress. {Preferred}
To serve with the COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps program, an individual must:
Be 18 years of age or older by start date (no upper age limit)
Have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be in process of completion
Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
Pass a mandatory pre-service background check
