Position Description
Job Title: Utility Operator

Department: Processing

Reports to: Processing Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Purpose:

To receive raw materials utilized in the processing of yeast and to facilitate the shipping of manufactured yeast.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives raw materials and facility supplies. Serves as the material handler/organizer for oils, cartons, bags, cello, etc. Maintains organization of stored raw materials.
  • Facilitates the shipment of cream yeast, receiving tanker information as to CIP, inspecting the tanker, and calculating dilution factor based on customer specifications. Load cream and water and seals the tanker.
  • Facilitates the shipment of packaged yeast, inspecting the trailers, loading trailers while recording product code and pallet temperatures. Prepares, documents, and places Temp Tale on appropriate trailers, insuring refrigeration at correct settings.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork for all shipments and inputs data into UNIX.
  • Completes weekly and monthly Fermentation and Packaging Inventory.
  • Completes required general sanitation and housekeeping duties in all assigned areas, including, but not limited to cream yeast area, packaging H/E area, alleyway, vitamin room, acid/ammonia storage, and molasses tanks.
  • Participates in the various Quality System programs including GMP/Sanitation, HACCP, ISO, and Safety.

Other Functions:

  • Provides back-up coverage for RVF (Packaging) Operators and /or Shipping & Receiving Coordinator
  • Assists Process Operator(s), as needed

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two (2) years industrial experience, preferably within a fast-paced, production driven food environment.
  • Experience as a Packaging Operator with RVF and shipping experience is desired, but not absolutely necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of and ability to safely operate forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with transportation vendors and other employees.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal/external customers.
  • Demonstrated skill to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail; logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including telephone, calculator, computer, printer, typewriter, fax, and copier.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Work is conducted in a typical production environment, permeated by the aroma of yeast manufacturing.
  • Work in the manufacturing plant requires hearing protection.
  • Work requires occasional exposure to the elements and seasonal changes in temperature.
