The Polarization and Extremism Research Innovation Lab (PERIL) at American University is a leading research center dedicated to studying and preventing extremism through evidence-based intervention programs. The Curriculum and Training Manager will lead PERIL's educational initiatives, developing and implementing innovative training programs focused on preventing radicalization and extremism. This role combines expertise in curriculum development, adult learning, and subject matter knowledge to create impactful educational experiences for diverse audiences, particularly within K-12 and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).

Essential Functions

  • Curriculum Development & Management: (1) Assist in designing and developing evidence-based training programs focused on extremism, radicalization, and prevention strategies. (2) Create and adapt educational materials tailored for various audiences, including K-12 educators, higher education institutions, community organizations, and public sector partners. (3) Ensure that all training materials align with the latest research, best practices, and PERIL’s mission. (4) Oversee ongoing updates and improvements to existing curricula based on evaluation data and emerging research. (5) Collaborate with subject matter experts to verify the accuracy and relevance of all content.
  • Training Program Management: (1) Oversee the delivery of training programs across various formats, including virtual, in-person, and hybrid sessions. (2) Supervise and mentor training consultants, graduate assistants, and facilitators to ensure effective program execution. (3) Develop and uphold quality standards and assess protocols for training programs. (4) Design innovative engagement strategies to effectively reach and educate audiences. (5) Manage program schedules, resources, and logistics to ensure smooth and efficient training delivery.
  • Program Evaluation & Research Integration: (1) Develop and implement program evaluation frameworks to assess training effectiveness. (2) Analyze impact metrics to measure the success and outcomes of training programs. (3) Integrate the latest research findings into training materials to ensure relevance and accuracy. (4) Contribute to PERIL’s research publications and presentations by sharing insights and findings. (5) Maintain thorough documentation of program outcomes and best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Partnership & Stakeholder Management: (1) Work with partner organizations to tailor training solutions to their specific needs. (2) Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in education, government, and community sectors. (3) Represent PERIL at conferences, workshops, and professional meetings to share expertise and expand outreach. (4) Assist in writing grant proposals and fulfilling reporting requirements to secure and sustain funding. (5) Identify and support the development of new partnership opportunities to expand PERIL’s impact.
  • As Needed/Unanticipated Work Activities: Perform any other unanticipated tasks that benefit PERIL and align with organizational goals in Training.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position might be called on to supervise junior staff in the future.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

  • Full-Time.
  • 35 hours a week.
  • This position is externally funded for two years and will be assessed for future work on projects.
  • Hybrid 1 – 3 days in the office.

Salary Range

  • $68,000-$70,000/yr.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Master's degree or equivalent .
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience.

Travel Required

  • Some travel required (15% - 20%).

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.  
  • Knowledge of intervention approaches to reduce radicalization.  
  • Knowledge of adult education theory and experience with training/curriculum design.
  • Program Management; Administrative Management.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse team on a variety of research projects.  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA and live in the DMV area. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position. Security Clearance is not applicable.
