What are the responsibilities and job description for the Urban Wear Fashion Designer position at American University of Health Sciences (AUHS)?
We are seeking a creative, trend-aware, and driven Urban Wear Fashion Designer to join our design team. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of streetwear culture, hip-hop, skate, and youth fashion, with the ability to turn cutting-edge trends into high-quality, wearable collections. You will manage the entire design process, from conceptualizing mood boards to overseeing prototypes, ensuring our brand remains innovative, relevant, and commercial.
Key Responsibilities
· Trend Research & Forecasting: Research global streetwear trends, street style, social media, and competitive brands to identify emerging trends, silhouettes, and fabrications.
· Design & Conceptualization: Create innovative design concepts, mood boards, and detailed CAD sketches for collections (tops, bottoms, outerwear, graphic tees, hoodies).
· Graphics Development: Create and oversee the development of unique graphic elements, logos, and placements for apparel.
· Tech Pack Creation: Produce comprehensive technical packages (tech packs) including detailed specs, construction notes, fabric details, and trim specifications for overseas/domestic vendors.
· Fabric & Trim Sourcing: Select fabrics, colors, and trims that align with brand aesthetics, quality standards, and budget constraints.
· Product Development & Fitting: Lead fitting sessions, take detailed fit notes, and work with pattern makers to refine garment construction for perfect fit.
· Production Oversight: Collaborate with sourcing, merchandising, and production teams to ensure final products match design intent, quality standards, and deadlines.
· Collaboration: Partner with marketing teams to develop product stories and assist with photoshoots or lookbooks.
Requirements & Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or a related field.
· Experience: 3-5 years of experience in fashion design, specifically within streetwear or casual contemporary apparel.
· Technical Skills: Deep proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and CAD software.
· Design Skills: Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and fabric properties.
· Knowledge: Strong understanding of streetwear culture and the ability to interpret trends commercially.
· Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing strong graphic capability, trend awareness, and technical skill is required.
· Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, adaptability to fast-paced environments, and proactive problem-solving.
Preferred Skills
· Experience with 3D design software (e.g., CLO3D, Browzwear).
· Experience with textile manipulation, screen printing, and embroidery techniques.
