Senior Tableau BI Developer
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, on site and telework. Austin-area candidates are given priority and must be onsite 2 to 3 times a week. Candidates 50 miles from the LBJ Building, once a month. Out-of-state candidates, 1 to 2 times a year. Travel is not reimbursed.

Contract Duration: Initial term expected to run September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027, with possible renewal terms through FY30 (confirm exact end date before quoting to candidates)
Schedule: Full-time contract schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, ongoing basis without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Summary
Client is seeking a Senior Tableau BI Developer for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. This role builds advanced, high-visibility Tableau dashboards based on functional specifications from business stakeholders, with dashboards used directly by the Comptroller's office. Cross-training current CPA staff on dashboard tools and practices is also part of the role.
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, and implement advanced analytical dashboards in Tableau based on stakeholder specifications
- Work with Product Owners and internal/external stakeholders to assess, document, design, and deliver dashboard needs
- Translate business requirements into advanced database and BI component designs
- Work across relational databases including SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2
- Perform code reviews and resolve complex technical issues, with clear written and verbal status updates
- Prepare detailed documentation and cross-train current staff
- Present and demonstrate dashboards and BI reports to business stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of Advanced SQL
- 5 years of BI report development in Tableau, including Tableau Prep
- 5 years of business/system/data analysis and improvement
- 5 years of data integration, data quality, and ETL tools and methodology
- 3 years of BI visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau, or SSRS
- 3 years working within complex application security requirements
- 3 years across Oracle, DB2, and MS SQL
- 3 years of Agile experience in both Kanban and Scrum
- 2 years of Python
- 2 years of TFS, Bitbucket, or Git
Ideal Background
The strongest candidates will have senior data analyst or BI developer experience building Tableau dashboards for a public sector or state government client, with comfort presenting to non-technical, senior-level stakeholders. Candidates should be hands-on with Tableau Prep specifically, not just Tableau Desktop, and should be comfortable working across more than one database platform.
