Description
American Traveler is seeking a Surgical Tech - First Assist (CSFA) to support surgical procedures in a hospital surgical services department, with a focus on first assisting in cardiothoracic and general surgical cases.

- Day shift schedule, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 40 hours per week
- Surgical patient population including cardiothoracic and general surgical procedures
- First assisting role with responsibilities including instrument passing, suturing, vessel ligation, and saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic)
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or comparable military training required
- Completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program required
- NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) certification required
- BLS certification required
- 6 to 12 months of surgical technology experience preferred
- License required if applicable
- MM/DD of date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Assist the surgeon as chief assistant in the OR, including scrubbing into cases and maintaining the sterile field throughout each procedure
- Assist with case setup, including opening sterile supplies and confirming all instruments and supplies are available and properly sterilized
- Perform first assist duties such as clamping, cauterizing, ligating vessels, applying hemostatic agents and clips, and placing running or interrupted sutures on wound layers
- First assist in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) following completion of an approved course
- Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or deviations from standard operating procedures
- Assist with patient positioning, sterile draping, and circulating duties as needed
- Responsible for point-of-use instrument cleaning, breakdown for Central Sterile Processing, and adherence to instrument transport and return standards
- Notify appropriate leadership of any damaged instruments identified at the end of a case
- Assist with post-case cleaning to ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
- Supervised by the department director and nurse manager; assignments received from the charge nurse or RN in charge of the room
