Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Renal) position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent renal/transplant specialty experience and active MO or compact RN license in hand.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a renal and transplant patient population
- Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
- Transplant patients are cared for at a 2:1 ratio for the first 48 hours post-transplant
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, on any combination of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
- Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required regularly
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
- Charting is performed in Epic
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available
- Located within a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license (covering both Kansas and Missouri) must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/renal specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
- Required skills: Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of Rapid Response Teams, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care, port access, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, peripheral IV insertion, heparin protocols, PCA management, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula and face masks), wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- Preferred skills: CVA care, surgical drain management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomy management, and thymo titration
- Experience with PD catheters required
- Experience with renal transplant, TPN, wound care, diabetic encephalopathy, acute renal rejection, and thymo administration required
- 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include caring for renal and transplant patients including management of PD catheters, wound vacs, TPN, and acute renal conditions
- Contracted dialysis services are in place — unit RNs are not required to independently perform hemodialysis
- Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage may be required as needed
- RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
- Completion of orientation modules is required prior to or at the start of the assignment (approximately 10–15 hours total)
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
