Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position in an acute care hospital setting, requiring ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications with prior PACU, ICU, or ED experience preferred.
Details
- 17-bed Phase 1 PACU only — travelers do not cover Phase 2
- Acute care hospital setting using Epic EMR
- Patient population includes post-anesthesia recovery cases, occasional ICU holds, and patients on vents, BiPAP, and CPAP (RT manages initial setup and rounds)
- EKG monitoring performed by RNs; physician consulted for official reads
- No PCA support on the unit
- 12-hour day shifts, with weekends as scheduled
- Call schedule is in place: assigned weekend call typically once every 3 months (Saturday and Sunday, 7a–7p); no night call except Sunday nights
- Holiday call assigned on a rotating basis — no more than one major holiday per year
- 60-minute call response time required
- No floating to other units required for travel RNs
- Scrubs are provided daily via a facility vending system and returned at end of shift
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Prior PACU experience preferred; ICU or ED experience also considered
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- 2 supervisor/peer references required (at least 1 supervisor reference; if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility)
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local travelers accepted
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning; cumulative travel time within WVU Medicine cannot exceed one year before a 2-year break is required
- Orientation is modified from the standard 8–12 week FTE process to fit travel RN needs
- Unit is led by Team Leads who do not take patient assignments but assist with lunch coverage
- All candidates undergo a direct interview with the unit manager
