Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU position in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, active AZ or Compact RN license, and the ability to titrate drips in a combined-acuity unit setting.
Details
- Combined-acuity ICU/PCU unit (Multi Care Unit) within an acute care hospital setting — all three acuity levels are managed within a single 10-bed unit, not across separate floors
- Patient population includes medical ICU diagnoses such as sepsis, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, diabetic complications, blood pressure/heart rate abnormalities, post-op complications, suicide attempts, and drug/alcohol withdrawal; PCU patients include those on non-titratable infusions for heart rate or blood pressure management
- Patient ratios depend on acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5–6; if no nurse aide, RN takes 1:3 and provides primary care
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Respiratory therapy supports use of vents, BiPAP, and CPAP on the unit
- Telemetry is present; remote monitor techs cover PCU and MST patients; RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor ICU patients via bedside cardiac monitor
- Charting is done in Cerner
- 12-hour day shifts (0700–1930)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday for day shift)
- Floating required: may float to EC MST and Pediatric unit (for adult MST assignments), and to the West Campus ICU/PCU to maintain competency; two-hour notice is provided before floating to the West Campus; travelers are first to float
- Low-census standby rotation in place
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year of ICU and 1 year of PCU/Med-Surg may be considered if from a larger facility with strong skills
- Must be able to titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to offer confirmation
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (as verified by driver's license)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past 12 months (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
Additional Information
- A profile review and manager interview are required as part of the selection process
- On the first day of orientation, RNs will take a pass/fail sterile technique test covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Orientation consists of hospital orientation followed by unit-specific orientation (12 orientation hours total)
- Holiday rotation applies to distribute holidays fairly among staff
- Any scrub color may be worn except camouflage
