Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a combined ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed position at a rural critical access hospital, requiring 2 years of experience and active ND or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Acute care setting at a 25-bed critical access hospital in a rural location
- Combined ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed unit
- Patient population includes geriatric patients, dementia, diabetes, post-acute rehab, trauma, wound care, chronic illness exacerbations, and COVID
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:8 utilizing team nursing model
- RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- RNs perform titration of drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- Patient-managed CPAP is used on the unit; no additional RT equipment responsibilities beyond troubleshooting
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM or 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
- Every other weekend required
- Alternating holiday coverage, typically every other holiday
- First to float between ER and MedSurg
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with geriatric patient care, including dementia, stroke, and skin care
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include providing care across ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed areas with a team nursing model
- A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries a team assignment rather than individual patient assignments
- CNAs/nurse aides are on each shift to support the nursing team
- 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Block scheduling is available upon request; team scheduling model is used
- No specific scrub color required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RTO requests of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
