Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, CRRT, ventilator, and post-op open heart experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a mixed-acuity CVICU with 18 beds, accommodating both ICU and Step Down status patients
- Patient population includes atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, bradycardia, NSTEMI, STEMI, cardiac arrest, hyper/hypotension, pulmonary embolism, cardiogenic shock, heart surgery (CABG/valves), heart failure, and thoracic surgery (VATS, lobectomy)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU status patients, 1:3 for step down status patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include Cardizem, Cordarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Cleviprex, Milrinone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Insulin, Heparin, Aggrastat, Precedex, Propofol, Versed, and Fentanyl
- Respiratory therapy equipment in use includes ventilators, trach-vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and Trilogy devices
- Telemetry is monitored by off-unit monitor techs, but RNs address alarms and read their own strips every 4 hours using Philips monitors
- Charting is performed using Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts; every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU; floating to Med-Surg and Telemetry is possible with a maximum of 6 patients
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must have experience with post-op open heart patients (minimum >6-hour post-op open heart care); fresh open heart OR experience preferred
- Must have CRRT experience
- Must have temporary pacemaker and post-permanent pacemaker experience
- Must have acute MI pre/post cath experience
- Must have mediastinal and chest tube experience
- Must have ventilator management experience
- Must have hypothermia protocol experience
- Must have arterial line experience
- IABP and Impella experience preferred
- Hemodynamic monitoring and Swan-Ganz experience preferred
- A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
Additional Information
- Intensivist and hospitalist are in-house; respiratory therapy is available 24/7
- 1-2 PCTs per shift provide nursing support
- Rare potential to work charge on night shift; night shift charge nurses take patient assignments
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests are accepted and often granted, though may be adjusted during schedule balancing periods
- Orientation consists of 1 week including modules, Epic training, and shadowing with a unit RN
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to apply
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
