Description
American Traveler is hiring a Polysomnographer / Sleep Technologist with at least 2 years of experience for a 13-week night shift contract at an off-campus sleep clinic in Rapid City, SD.
Details
- Off-campus outpatient sleep clinic open 6 nights per week
- 10-bed sleep unit averaging 8–10 patients per night
- Patient population includes pediatric (ages 3 ) and adult patients; peds experience preferred but not required
- Standard patient ratio is 1:2; 1:1 for patients ages 3–4 or those with developmental issues
- Common diagnoses include obstructive and central sleep apnea, narcolepsy, parasomnias, and sleep-related movement disorders
- Treatment modalities include CPAP, BiPAP, ASV, and supplemental O2
- EMR: Epic
- Equipment: Nihon Kohden Polysmith Sleep System
- 12-hour night shifts, Wednesday through Friday, 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation may be required every weekend depending on facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- Coverage for approximately 50% of holidays during the contract may be required
- No floating required
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of polysomnography experience required
- Current BLS required
- One of the following credentials required: RPSGT (by BRPT), RST (by ABSM), or RRT with SDS credentials
- License required if applicable
- Experience with pediatric and adult sleep study patients
- Proficiency with PAP therapies including CPAP, BiPAP, and ASV
- Ability to apply and monitor electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other monitoring probes
- Competency in establishing and documenting baseline values including body position, movements, SpO2, respiratory rate, and heart rate
- Proficiency with sleep scoring performed during night shifts
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Patient preparation takes approximately 1 hour per patient, including PAP mask fitting and electrode placement
- Sleep scoring is completed during the night shift
- Ambulatory patients who require assistance must have a support person present
- All pediatric patients are evaluated by a physician prior to their sleep study
- Department support includes 2–3 additional techs per shift, an LPN on-site until 8:00 PM, and a receptionist until 8:00 PM
- Medical Director and management are available by phone throughout the night
- 24-hour equipment tech support available by phone
- AED is on-site; emergency protocol is to call 911
- Orientation includes general facility onboarding and 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
- Dark gray scrubs required
- Free parking available at the rear of the building
- RTO requests must be approved by the manager
- 2 professional references dated within the past year are required for consideration
