American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit position requiring an Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) and a minimum of 2 years of inpatient experience.

• Medical/Surgical unit with a primarily oncology patient population in an inpatient hospital setting
• Common diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, septic shock, cancer, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and OD
• Chemotherapy and biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection is part of the role
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6; ratios may be higher during periods of increased census
• Unit census is 42 patients daily
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend required
• On-call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; missed shifts must be made up
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
• Contract staff will be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
• Contract length: 13–26 weeks

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Active ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in an inpatient setting required
• Required clinical skills: Med/Surg, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• Preferred: CPI certification, charge nurse experience, OCN certification

• Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts) with weekly orientation sessions; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required
• Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected
• Scrub colors: navy blue and white
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation
• Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Travel pairs are welcome, though each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a local rate
