Internship Description
ATFL’s internship program aims to engage young adults passionate about U.S. foreign policy, the Middle East, and U.S.-Lebanon relations by offering them the opportunity to serve with the leading U.S. organization dedicated to strengthening ties between the United States and Lebanon. Through this program, interns will gain firsthand insight into U.S. foreign policymaking and acquire valuable professional experience by working directly with ATFL staff.
Interns are expected to commit at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of three months. Candidates must be based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to participate in ATFL’s hybrid (remote and in-person) schedule and take full advantage of the professional opportunities available in the region. ATFL's office is located at 1100 Connecticut Ave NW, Ste 1050 Washington, DC 20036.
For the fall term, ATFL is recruiting undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates for three internship positions: Program and Operations Intern, Communications Intern, and Government Affairs Intern. Interns are expected to begin work sometime in late August or early September.

Program and Operations Intern Responsibilities
- Data Management: Compiling and organizing data and maintaining internal records.
- Annual Dinner Preparation: Helping with logistics in planning and executing ATFL’s Annual Dinner such as letter drafting, vendor communications, and sorting attendee information.
- Office Operations: Assisting with various tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the office.
- Research and Analysis: Monitoring developments in US foreign policy, Lebanon, and the Middle East and analyzing implications for US-Lebanon relations.
Communications Intern Responsibilities
- Content creation: Drafting newsletters, social media posts, press releases, and other communication materials using Canva etc.
- programs.
- Social media management: Scheduling content, monitoring engagement, and researching trending topics.
- Research and analysis: Monitoring developments in U.S. foreign policy, Lebanon, and the Middle East and analyzing implications for U.S.-Lebanon relations.
- Administrative tasks: Handling database management, general office duties, and other tasks as assigned.
Government Affairs Intern Responsibilities
- Tracking Legislation: Monitoring and summarizing relevant Congressional legislation, as well as tracking the progress of bills through the legislative process.
- Attending Hearings and Events: Observing and summarizing congressional hearings, briefings, and other events related to policy.
- Meeting Coordination: Assisting with the planning and coordination of meetings with government officials and other stakeholders.
- Research and Analysis: Monitoring developments in U.S. foreign policy, Lebanon, and the Middle East and analyzing implications for U.S.-Lebanon relations.
- Administrative Tasks: Handling database management, general office duties, and other tasks as assigned.
General Qualifications
- Must be a current undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate in a relevant field (International Relations/Affairs, Political Science, Government, Middle Eastern Studies, etc.)
- Must be based in the Washington, D.C. area for the duration of the internship.
- Must be able to work at ATFL's office at least twice a week, including Wednesdays.
- Must commit at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of three months.
- Familiarity with U.S. foreign policy, Lebanon, and the Middle East.
Position-specific Qualifications
- Program and Operations Intern: Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Communications Intern: Must be proficient in social media and have basic graphic design skills.
- Government Affairs Intern: Must have basic knowledge of the legislative and executive branches of government.
Compensation
- This internship is unpaid; however, ATFL will compensate interns for travel expenses. ATFL is also prepared to confer academic credit to those who complete the program.
