Job description-Staff Accountant
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting, financial reporting, and compliance tasks to support the daily operations of a firearms manufacturing business. This role maintains accurate financial records, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (including ATF-regulated inventory controls), supports audits, and provides financial insights to management. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and strict adherence to compliance requirements are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and maintain accurate financial records.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
- Track fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital projects.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and payment transactions.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Support
- Assist in calculating production costs, bill of materials, and labor allocation.
- Monitor inventory transactions and ensure cost accuracy for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Support cycle counts and physical inventory audits in coordination with operations.
- Partner with production teams to analyze variances and manufacturing efficiencies.
Regulatory & ATF Compliance Support
- Maintain accurate accounting records related to serialized firearms inventory.
- Support ATF and internal audits by providing accurate documentation when required.
- Ensure financial processes align with ATF, state, and federal regulations as they relate to production, sales, and recordkeeping.
Payroll & Employee Expenses
- Support payroll processing, timekeeping verification, and payroll reconciliations.
- Review and process employee reimbursements and expense reports.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and improve internal financial controls.
- Assist with documentation of procedures, workflows, and audit requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience preferred; manufacturing industry experience is a plus.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, or ERP systems preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Work Environment
- Office environment with routine interaction with production and warehouse areas.
- May require occasional participation in inventory counts within a manufacturing setting.
