Job description-Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting, financial reporting, and compliance tasks to support the daily operations of a firearms manufacturing business. This role maintains accurate financial records, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (including ATF-regulated inventory controls), supports audits, and provides financial insights to management. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and strict adherence to compliance requirements are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and maintain accurate financial records.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
• Track fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital projects.
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and payment transactions.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Support

• Assist in calculating production costs, bill of materials, and labor allocation.
• Monitor inventory transactions and ensure cost accuracy for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Support cycle counts and physical inventory audits in coordination with operations.
• Partner with production teams to analyze variances and manufacturing efficiencies.

Regulatory & ATF Compliance Support

• Maintain accurate accounting records related to serialized firearms inventory.
• Support ATF and internal audits by providing accurate documentation when required.
• Ensure financial processes align with ATF, state, and federal regulations as they relate to production, sales, and recordkeeping.

Payroll & Employee Expenses

• Support payroll processing, timekeeping verification, and payroll reconciliations.
• Review and process employee reimbursements and expense reports.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

• Maintain and improve internal financial controls.
• Assist with documentation of procedures, workflows, and audit requirements.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience preferred; manufacturing industry experience is a plus.
• Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, or ERP systems preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.

Work Environment

• Office environment with routine interaction with production and warehouse areas.
• May require occasional participation in inventory counts within a manufacturing setting.

• Must be able to pass background checks in accordance with federal and state firearms regulations and drug screen.
