Reports to: Program Managers (Language, Youth & Family, & Cultural Programs) 

Compensation: $17 per hour 

Educational Requirements: None 

Exempt or Nonexempt: Non-Exempt 

Hourly or Salaried: Hourly 

Hours Per Week: Part-time 

Hybrid or On Site: On-site 

Language proficiency: English. Swedish required to assist with language programs but not required to support other programs. Proficiency/familiarity with another language is a plus but not required. 

Schedule: Varies. Due to the nature of on-call ASI is unable to guarantee a minimum number of hours per week.

POSITION SUMMARY

The On Call Programs Assistant is responsible for preparing & delivering engaging, educational, and fun interactive experiences, public programs, and special events on a variety of topics for ASI audiences for both virtual and in-person programming. The On Call Programs Assistant will work mostly with Public Programs but could occasionally support Youth and Family Programs, Language Programs and Nordic Table and Handcraft Programs. The On Call Program Assistant can assist with Event Rentals and programs providing mansion facilitation and interpretation for a variety of audiences.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with delivering program content, interactive experiences, public programs, and events across a variety of programs including Youth & Family, Language, Handcraft, Nordic Table, and Arts and Culture.  
  • Prepare and deliver program material as directed ensuring presentation style and materials are appropriate for audience groups as it relates to age and experience level.  
  • Assist with set up, tear down, and clean up for programs. 
  • Provide technical assistance to students and instructors for virtual programming events.  
  • Assist the Program Department with evaluation and continually seek improvement opportunities for programs and events.  
  • Assist staff, interns, and volunteers as needed to keep the program/event running smoothly and to deliver an exceptional experience.  
  • Assist the Program Department with various projects as assigned.  
  • Provide mansion facilitation as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 16 years of age. 
  • Comfortable presenting and interacting with large groups.  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with multicultural, intergenerational audiences, in a friendly and professional manner.  
  • Exceptional customer service orientation for guests of ASI and staff members.  
  • Demonstrates initiative, ability to plan, organize, work independently, and follow through on projects.  
  • Ability to make decisions and resolve issues quickly.  
  • Skilled with technology; working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite or similar.  
  • Must be flexible to perform all duties as assigned, and reliable for all scheduled shifts.  
  • Must be available to work weekends and evenings. 
  • Swedish language knowledge required for assistance in language programs. 

PREFERRED 

  • Swedish language knowledge preferred but not required for assistance with programs other than language. 
  • Interest in Nordic culture and museum work preferred but not required. 
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
