Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Shipping Manager specializing in heavy lift operations to lead our logistics and freight management team. In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end shipping processes, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of large, heavy, and complex cargo. Your expertise in supply chain management, transportation planning, and warehouse distribution will drive operational excellence, optimize costs, and enhance overall customer satisfaction. Duties
- Coordinate and supervise heavy lift shipments, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements across all transportation modes.
- Develop and implement shipping strategies utilizing transportation management systems (TMS), ERP platforms, and warehouse management systems (WMS) to optimize freight routes, costs, and delivery timelines.
- Manage procurement activities related to freight services, negotiating contracts with carriers including 3PL providers, NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier), and other vendors to secure competitive pricing and service quality.
- Oversee warehouse distribution processes, including materials handling, inventory control, stocking procedures, and order fulfillment for large-scale projects.
- Conduct root cause analysis on shipping delays or damages; implement process improvements to prevent recurrence and enhance efficiency.
- Lead category management initiatives by analyzing supply chain data using Tableau, SQL, and supply chain analytics tools to identify opportunities for cost savings and process enhancements.
- Supervise the use of mechanical equipment such as forklifts; ensure all safety protocols are followed during materials handling and transportation activities.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to source materials efficiently while maintaining optimal inventory levels through demand planning and inventory management strategies.
- Monitor freight costs, pricing strategies, and profit & loss metrics; adjust logistics plans accordingly to maximize profitability.
- Maintain vendor relationships through effective communication, contract negotiations, and performance evaluations to ensure reliable service delivery.
Experience
- Proven experience in shipping management with a focus on heavy lift operations within a complex supply chain environment.
- Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP platforms such as SAP or AS400, and supply chain analytics tools like Tableau or SQL.
- Strong understanding of logistics processes including freight forwarding (NVOCC), dispatching, materials handling, procurement, sourcing, demand planning, production planning, and inventory control.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data for process improvement initiatives; experience with root cause analysis is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience operating forklifts or other mechanical equipment used in warehouse environments; certification preferred.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of managing vendor contracts effectively while optimizing costs.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail on shipping accuracy and safety standards.
