American Steel in Canby Oregon is looking to add a Purchasing Manager to our team. This position is responsible for purchasing, planning, forecasting, and managing the process of sourcing materials for our plate and coil lines. Job Functions:
- Responsible for efficient and cost-effective procurement of goods and services for ongoing operations.
- Conducts competitive analysis to recommend vendors for required goods and services.
- Interviews and negotiates with vendors to obtain best prices and terms for the organization.
- Manages vendor performance to control cost, drive service excellence, and mitigate risk throughout the relationship.
- Communicates organizational needs to vendors and establishes/maintains strong vendor relationships.
- Schedules and facilitates vendor reviews, manages performance, and addresses appropriate resolutions.
- Analyzes consumption of supplies and services and establishes appropriate re-order points.
- Reconciles problems that occur during the purchasing process, including return of incorrect/defective goods.
- Sets up agreements with new vendors and performs basic review of contracts and terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with company policies and best practices.
- Implements cost-savings strategies and initiatives for purchasing.
- Oversees, prioritizes and updates purchase requests using appropriate tracking mechanism(s).
- Responsible for exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality and information security.
- Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.
- All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of relevant purchasing experience required.
- High School diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Broad knowledge of purchasing laws, policies, regulations, practices, methods, and procedures required.
- Broad knowledge of applicable sources, prices, market factors and product characteristics of assigned products and/or services required.
- Broad knowledge of contract types and applicability of usage required.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
- High level of interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with suppliers required.
- Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
