What are the responsibilities and job description for the Application Engineer position at American Semiconductor?
Applications Engineer - Advanced Semiconductor Packaging
Build what others only imagine. Ship what others only study.
We’re looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to help drive the development and commercialization of next-generation flexible circuit board (FCB) systems and ultra-thin IC technologies. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work across design, integration, and manufacturing—turning advanced concepts into real hardware.
In this position, you’ll lead prototyping efforts, support system-level design and integration, and contribute across packaging, assembly, and test. You’ll also serve as a technical leader, guiding engineers and technicians while helping move new technologies into production. Documentation, test reporting, and cross-functional collaboration are a core part of the role.
You should bring strong experience in PCB or FCB system design and test, along with a background in SoC, FPGA, or MCU programming and firmware development. Experience in mixed-signal or RF systems is important, as is familiarity with Python for automation or analysis. This role requires someone comfortable working hands-on with lab equipment—probing systems, oscilloscopes, and analyzers—while also thinking at the system level.
We’re looking for someone who has led engineering efforts or small teams and is motivated by building and problem-solving. A background in flexible or traditional circuit board design is valuable, but just as important is a willingness to work across IC packaging, assembly, and test. If you like to design, build, and iterate—and want to see your work move into real applications—you’ll fit well here.
The position requires a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (or related field) and approximately seven or more years of relevant experience.
Compensation includes a competitive salary, equity participation, and medical benefits, with opportunities for growth across both technical and leadership paths.
This role is based in Boise, Idaho. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate at their own expense and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
