As a Traffic Control Flagger, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction sites and roadwork zones. Your primary responsibility will be to direct traffic around work areas, providing clear instructions to drivers and pedestrians while maintaining a secure environment for your team. You’ll be the vital link between the public and construction operations, ensuring that everyone can navigate safely through potentially hazardous areas.
What you’ll do
- Direct traffic flow around construction sites using hand signals and signage to ensure safety for both workers and the public.
- Monitor construction zones for hazards and report any unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.
- Collaborate with heavy equipment operators, including Dozer, Loader, Backhoe, Front Loader Truck, Dump Truck, Grader, and Caterpillar operators to facilitate smooth operations.
- Assist in utility locating efforts to prevent damage to underground utilities during construction activities.
- Maintain clear communication with team members regarding traffic conditions and any changes in work plans.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols on the job site.
- Provide support in paving operations as needed, contributing to the overall success of construction projects.
Basic qualifications
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey instructions clearly and effectively.
- Obtained a high school diploma or GED at time of hire.
- Be at least 18 years of age (required to obtain flagging certification).
- Ability to remain alert and focused during long shifts in varying weather conditions.
- Certified Flagger through Oregon Department of Transportation or able to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
- Pass a criminal background check.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience in traffic control or construction site environments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of utility locating practices and MUTCD zone setup is advantageous.
