Role Description
Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers respond to local home fires and other emergencies, providing immediate assistance to individuals and families during some of their most difficult moments.
As a DAT volunteer, you will:
- Provide immediate resources, including food, clothing, and temporary lodging
- Offer emotional support during stressful situations
- Assist with replacing essential items lost in a disaster
- Guide families as they begin their recovery journey
This opportunity is with the American Red Cross New Jersey Region. DAT volunteers serve in the county where they live.
Time Commitment
- 5–10 hours per week
- One‑year commitment
- Flexible scheduling for on-call shifts based on your availability
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain regular communication with team members during emergency responses
- Collaborate with Red Cross volunteers and staff on-scene to coordinate additional support
- Attend required meetings and trainings
- Follow American Red Cross Fundamental Principles and policies

Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver's license and/or a timely, reliable way to get to a disaster scene
