POSITION OVERVIEW
Full-Time, Hourly
We are seeking an HR & Payroll Coordinator to support our people operations in a growing, mission-driven organization of approximately 50 employees. This role is well-suited for someone early in their HR or payroll career who is eager to learn, build skills, and grow into increased responsibility over time.
The position is responsible for processing weekly, hourly-heavy payroll, which currently requires less than two days per week. To ensure a full and engaging workload, this role will also serve as a Customer Service Representative/Receptionist Wednesday through Friday, handling front-office and customer-facing responsibilities. As the company continues to grow, this position is expected to transition toward a greater focus on HR and payroll functions.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, approachable, and comfortable working in a small-company environment where collaboration and flexibility are valued.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
HR & Payroll
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for a primarily hourly workforce.
- Maintain employee records, timekeeping data, and payroll documentation.
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding, including new hire paperwork, system access, and coordination with management.
- Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and employee questions.
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, timekeeping, and basic HR policies.
- Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Assist with maintaining and improving HR processes and documentation as the company grows.
Customer Service / Reception (Wednesday – Friday)
- Serve as the primary front-desk and phone contact for employees, customers, vendors, and visitors.
- Answer and route incoming calls and emails in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assist employees with basic questions or direct them to the appropriate department.
- Provide general administrative support as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written).
- Interest in building a career in Human Resources and Payroll.
- Some prior exposure to HR, payroll, or administrative work.
- Comfortable managing weekly payroll cycles with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with payroll/HR systems and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Professional and approachable communication style.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on increasing responsibility over time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in HR, payroll, or people operations.
- Experience using Rippling’s Payroll or HR platform.
- SHRM certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP), or interest in pursuing certification in the future.
- Experience supporting an hourly workforce.
- Experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, or a similar operational environment.
Compensation
- The wage range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00 Hourly, commensurate with experience.
