Position Summary
The Policy, Research, and International Division intern within APCIA will work with division staff on domestic and international issues, such as artificial intelligence, international policy, and help with the Cyber, Innovation, and AI committee. The intern will assist the teams addressing AI and International issues including research, legislation reviews, and work with the policy team. APCIA’s professional staff will direct the intern’s work to further the organization’s advocacy goals and measured metrics.
The intern position is limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week and requires experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or similar software products). The intern should be working toward a bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree in a related area and have an interest in insurance public policy or advocacy with experience in data analysis, legislative analysis, and/or economic trends.
Principal Responsibilities
- Review and summarize legislation, articles, or information related to assigned areas such as international or artificial intelligence.
- Analyze and summarize trends using a variety of sources either provided by APCIA or publicly available.
- Develop written information as requested and work with members of APCIA’s professional staff to find and review specific industry-related information.
Additional Responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned in coordination with supervisor.
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum is high school graduate.
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in a related field or area desired.
- Advanced degree is beneficial but not required.
Experience:
- Interactions with clubs or previous experience working with others, ability to develop methods to solve problems with specific direction and guidance.
- Previous leadership with others is a plus (e.g., coordinating a club or holding an office in a structured recognized organization on campus).
Skills:
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products or their equivalent.
- Ability to review and summarize key points on specific insurance-related issues.
- Develop and use AI software such as Microsoft Copilot and checking the accuracy of that work.
