Role Description The Advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Lake Charles, LA. This role is responsible for performing advanced phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) and related non-destructive examinations on piping, structural components, and other assets in accordance with applicable codes, client procedures, and company standards. Day-to-day activities include setting up and calibrating equipment, interpreting and documenting test results, preparing detailed inspection reports, and communicating findings to project managers, clients, and Level III personnel. The technician collaborates closely with other inspection staff and site personnel to plan work scopes, ensure safe operations, and meet project deadlines. The role also includes maintaining equipment, adhering to safety and quality programs, and participating in ongoing training to stay current with evolving NDT technologies and practices.
Qualifications
- Non-destructive testing expertise, including advanced phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) experience and strong understanding of NDE/NDT principles.
- Technical proficiency with ultrasonic testing equipment, data acquisition software, calibration techniques, and interpretation of complex indications.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, AWS) and the ability to apply them to inspections in piping, structural, and facility environments.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, including accurate data recording, preparation of clear inspection reports, and effective communication with clients and internal teams.
- Solid safety awareness and adherence to site safety procedures, including hazard recognition, use of appropriate PPE, and compliance with company and customer safety policies.
- Ability to work on-site in industrial environments, including field conditions, with flexibility for varying schedules, travel as needed, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Relevant certifications such as ASNT Level II or Level III in UT/PAUT or equivalent, with prior experience in pipeline, petrochemical, or power generation industries preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in NDT or related disciplines and continued professional development strongly preferred.
