Orthotic & Prosthetic Technician

American Orthotic & Prosthetic Center, Inc. is seeking a motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented Orthotic & Prosthetic Technician to join our growing team in Richmond, Virginia.

This is a full-time, on-site position for someone who enjoys hands-on fabrication, technical problem-solving, and working in a collaborative healthcare environment. Experience in orthotic and prosthetic fabrication is preferred, but we are willing to invest in the right candidate who demonstrates mechanical aptitude, craftsmanship, reliability, and a strong desire to learn. The selected candidate will have opportunities to develop skills in traditional orthotic and prosthetic fabrication, metalworking, 3D printing, digital fabrication, and other emerging manufacturing technologies.

• Fabricate custom orthotic and prosthetic devices according to clinician prescriptions, measurements, and specifications.
• Assemble, modify, repair, and adjust orthotic and prosthetic devices and components.
• Measure, cut, shape, mold, laminate, grind, polish, and finish fabrication materials.
• Work with plastics, foams, composites, resins, metals, leather, and other materials used in device construction.
• Perform metalworking and other specialized fabrication techniques as required.
• Learn and assist with 3D printing, digital fabrication, and advanced manufacturing processes.
• Read and interpret prescriptions, measurements, technical drawings, models, casts, and digital scans.
• Collaborate with orthotists, prosthetists, and other clinical team members to ensure proper device fit, function, comfort, and quality.
• Assist with technical adjustments during patient fittings when needed.
• Inspect completed devices for accuracy, appearance, durability, and compliance with specifications.
• Complete fabrication projects accurately and within established production timelines.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, ovens, grinders, vacuum-forming equipment, and other laboratory machinery.
• Monitor inventory of fabrication materials, components, tools, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and efficient fabrication laboratory.
• Follow all applicable safety, infection-control, quality-assurance, and compliance standards.

• Orthotic and prosthetic fabrication experience is preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, power tools, or shop equipment.
• Metalworking experience is preferred, or a willingness to learn.
• Interest in learning 3D printing and digital manufacturing technologies.
• Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality.
• Ability to follow measurements, technical instructions, and device specifications accurately.
• Dependable, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
• Professional and respectful approach when working with clinicians, patients, caregivers, and coworkers.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Orthotic and prosthetic technician education, certification, or related technical training is a plus.

• Ability to stand and work at a fabrication bench for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, kneel, push, pull, and perform repetitive manual tasks.
• Manual dexterity, coordination, hand strength, and visual attention necessary for detailed fabrication work.
• Ability to safely operate laboratory tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow workplace safety procedures.

• Starting salary of $42,000 per year.
• Higher starting compensation may be available based on relevant experience.
