Duties
- Conduct thorough podiatric evaluations including patient assessments, medical history reviews, and physical examinations focused on foot and lower limb health.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans addressing conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers, deformities, infections, and skin or nail issues.
- Perform advanced procedures including suturing, wound care, toenail removal, and minor surgical interventions to promote healing and prevent complications.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—such as nursing staff, physicians specializing in geriatrics or internal medicine—to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Educate patients and caregivers on foot health management, preventive practices, and proper footwear to reduce future risks.
- Stay current with clinical research developments in podiatry and related fields such as endocrinology, vascular interventional radiography, and wound management to continually enhance patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Podiatrist with certification to practice in long-term care environments.
- Proven experience in hospital or nursing home settings with a focus on patient service and comprehensive foot care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other healthcare information technology platforms for documentation and patient tracking.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology related to lower extremity health, and common conditions affecting elderly populations.
- Ability to perform clinical procedures including suturing, wound care management, toenail procedures, and basic life support (BLS).
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
