About the Role:

The Assistant Professor of Exercise Science will play a pivotal role in advancing the academic mission of the department by delivering high-quality instruction, conducting impactful research, and contributing to service activities within the university community. This position requires the development and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses that cover foundational and advanced topics in exercise science, promoting student engagement and learning. The successful candidate will design and lead research projects that contribute to the understanding of human movement, physical activity, and health, seeking external funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Collaboration with colleagues across disciplines to enhance curriculum development and participate in departmental and university committees is essential. Ultimately, this role aims to foster an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that prepares students for careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, and research fields related to exercise science.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • Evidence of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with grant writing and securing external research funding.
  • Expertise in specialized areas such exercise testing, exercise physiology, motor control, exercise for special populations and/or sports nutrition.
  • Experience teaching both in-person and online courses.
  • Active membership in professional organizations related to exercise science.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, prepare, and deliver lectures and laboratory sessions for undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise science.
  • Design and conduct original research projects, including securing external funding and publishing findings in reputable academic journals.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic progress, research projects, and career development.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and university service committees.
  • Engage in community outreach and professional activities that promote the discipline and enhance the department's visibility.

Strong teaching skills enable the candidate to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts and engage diverse student populations. Research skills, including experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing, are essential for producing high-quality scholarly work and securing funding. Interpersonal and mentoring skills facilitate productive relationships with students and colleagues, fostering a supportive academic environment. Additionally, organizational and time management skills are critical for balancing teaching, research, and service commitments efficiently.
