The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring all domestic and international lumber import and export operations comply with federal, state, and international regulations. This role oversees regulatory documentation, trade compliance processes, supply chain risk management, environmental and sustainability requirements, and adherence to industry-specific legal frameworks such as the Lacey Act, Customs regulations, and foreign trade laws. The Compliance Specialist partners closely with operations and Controller to mitigate risk and maintain compliant, efficient trade practices.

The Compliance Specialist partners closely with operations and Controller to mitigate risk and maintain compliant, efficient trade practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, prepare, and validate import/export documentation, ensuring compliance with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government agency regulations
- Organize, audit, and perform reviews of import entry packets to ensure accuracy and compliance with U.S. Customs and Border (CBP) regulations
- Monitor changes in international and domestic trade regulations and advise the Controller on any potential impacts
- Complete monthly reconciling and error reporting of import transactions, which entails a complete 4-way reconciliation of import entries to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Perform new supplier due diligence and maintain the FCTG Risk Supplier Matrix database
- Request and maintain up-to-date certifications and documentation from foreign suppliers to comply with applicable laws and regulations
- Participate with Controller on any audits conducted by FCTG, CBP, or any other governmental agencies and respond to inquiries from internal or external legal counsel
- Classify products with correct harmonized tariff codes (HTCs), perform periodic reviews of HTS classifications for imported products, and maintain the HTS database
- Ensure all employees follow the policies, processes and procedures outlined in FCTG’s Import Compliance Program
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience or equivalent experience in the Import/Export field of 3-5 years. Lumber industry preferred but not required
- Compliance Specialist certification required
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Positive, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with internal and external colleagues, including compliance, operations, executives, commodity traders, brokers, and suppliers
- Must be willing to continue their education/skills via completion of additional certifications and continuing education that the company will provide access to
- General experience in business, commodities, auditing, supply chain, procurement, or related field is a plus for this position
