The American Indigenous Tourism Association (AIT) is excited to announce an outstanding career opportunity for the position of Field Training & Support Specialist within the Association. As the Field Training & Support Specialist, you will play a key role in providing essential support and coordination for AIT’s Education programming efforts under a program launched in partnership with AIT and the United States Forest Service (USFS) to support Native Nations and communities to advance healthy forest goals through federal funding opportunities, as well as partnerships to support the launch and training of The Original Original Accreditation program in the United States.

Job Description: This role collaborates closely with the Community Navigator Project Team and Education and Business Development Team to play a pivotal role in supporting AIT's Community Navigator programming and The Original Original program accreditation efforts. This multifaceted position involves supporting initiatives that build capacity for increased access and sustainable participation in federal funding opportunities with a wide variety of new and existing Forest Service programs for American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians engaged in cultural and recreational tourism programming and initiatives on and adjacent to Native lands. The role will also provide educational support for AIT's broader tourism development initiatives, including emerging quality certification programs.
Through the planning, organization, and execution of educational activities, this position’s responsibilities encompass contributing to program, curriculum, and training development and supporting the active engagement of tribes, tribal businesses, and members in AIT's Community Navigator project and broader training opportunities. This role is instrumental in the development of training programs, with emphasis on in-person workshops, hands-on training sessions, and direct support to community navigators in the field. This dynamic role also involves collaboration with various AIT program areas, including support for Community Navigator programming and development of educational materials for tourism quality certification initiatives, contributing to the organization's mission achievement and playing a key part in the success of the Community Navigator Program.
Qualifications Required:
• Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Education or closely related field
• Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in education encompassing curriculum/training design and implementation with emphasis on in-person facilitation and community-based learning
• Proficiency in Microsoft products
• Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility in schedule to accommodate training and travel
• Strong work ethic, initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Basic understanding and respect for tribal customs, traditions, values, and beliefs
Preferred:
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or related field
• Workshop facilitation experience
• Minimum of 2 years of experience and knowledge in navigating and securing federal funding
• Experience working with Native Nations, tribal organizations, or Indigenous communities
• Experience or familiarity with certification programs, quality assurance standards, or tourism industry best practices
• Knowledge of federal agency partnerships and collaborative programming a plus
• Knowledge or experience in developing educational materials for diverse audiences
• Background in natural resource management, conservation, or environmental education
• Experience providing direct technical assistance and one-on-one coaching to program participants
The ideal candidate for this position holds an associate degree from an accredited college or university in Education, or a closely related field, coupled with a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in education encompassing curriculum/training design and implementation with emphasis on in-person facilitation and community-based learning, workshop facilitation, and a minimum of two years of experience or knowledge in navigating ad seeking federal funding or grants.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong background and exhibit proficiency in Microsoft products. Flexibility in schedule to accommodate training and travel, and effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are essential. The candidate should have a basic understanding and respect for tribal customs, traditions, values, and beliefs, along with a strong work ethic, initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Salary: $55,000 - $70,000, depending on experience. AIT offers a competitive benefit package.
