POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Accountant - Cost Accounting to support the financial operations of our wallboard manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for overseeing cost accounting functions, inventory valuation, production reporting, and margin analysis to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational decision support. The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing experience, a deep understanding of cost accounting principles, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and plant leadership.
REGULAR DUTIES
- Lead all cost accounting activities related to wallboard manufacturing operations.
- Maintain and analyze standard costs, including raw materials (gypsum, paper, additives), labor, and overhead absorption rates.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory valuation and reconciliations (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
- Analyze manufacturing variances (material usage, labor efficiency, overhead) and provide actionable insights to operations leadership.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Partner with plant managers to monitor production performance, cost drivers, and yield metrics.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling for manufacturing operations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies related to inventory and cost accounting.
- Drive process improvements and cost control initiatives within manufacturing accounting functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting (Required)
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
- Experience in process manufacturing (wallboard, building materials, cement, or similar high-volume production environments preferred).
- Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls related to manufacturing operations.
